Anastasiya Yatsuk of Textilehaus

Behind Textilehaus, A San Francisco Based Brand Founded By One Of Our Designer-In-Residence Stands Anastasiya Yatsuk.  After Receiving A Fine Arts Degree In The US, Anastasiya Focused Her Technical And Artistic Skills To Co-Create TextileHaus, Which Operates From The FiSF Studio.

Anastasiya Starts Her Design Process With The Fabric Selection, And Sustainability Is Always In Her Mind; She's Trying To Choose From The Leftover Fabrics And Gives Them Another Life. From There, She Lets The Fabric Lead The Collection Spirit And Creates The Whole Collection From The Same Materials. Another Significant Inspiration Comes From The Place She Grew Up In- Russia. She Feels Deeply Inspired By The Local Culture And Folklore, As We’ll See In Her Next Knitwear Collection.

What Was The Best Thing You Learned In The Incubator Program?

I Signed Up For The Incubator For The Business Part. It's Wonderful To Have Mentors In Different Areas, Such As Production, Sourcing, And Finances. Having A Meeting With Those Professional Mentors That Are Highly Experienced In Their Field Is Eye-Opening.

How Did The Fashion Incubator Help You Grow Your Business And Evolve?

The Fashion Incubator Helped My Business To Evolve In The Different Areas I Had A Hard Time Dealing With. I Implemented The Mentors' Tips And Advice. Thanks To That, My Brand Experienced Increased Growth During 2019 And I Could Solve Dilemmas I Had To Deal With Better Than Before.

Do You Have Any Advice/Message For Aspiring Designers Starting Their Own Business?

The Most Important Thing I've Learned Is That Before Starting Your Business, You Must Know Who You Are And That You Can Trust Yourself. I Think There Are Two Ways To Start Your Own Business- One Is To Just Go For It, And The Second Is To Follow An Organized Plan. These Two Approaches Are Excellent; It Really Depends On Who You Are And What Suits Your Personality. If You're Just Afraid- Start And Grow With It.  In General, To Be A Fashion Designer, You Need To Really Want It For Genuine Reasons. If It Makes Your Life Meaningful, Do It, And If Not, Don't Do It.

Thank you Anastasiya!

Your Brand Has A Minimal Clean Aesthetic. Tell Us A Little Bit About What Inspired You, And What Your Plans Are For 2020?

My Brand Describes Who I Am As A Person. I Always Like Simple And Minimal Things When I'm Designing. My Main Inspiration For Each Collection Is My Source -The Fabric, On Every Collection I'm Focusing On What I Can Create With The Fabric, This Is Why I Named My Brand Textilehaus Because I'll Always Choose A Fabric And Make The Entire Collection Out Of It.

My Plans For 2020 Are To Start Working On A Knitwear Collection. I Want To Study The Art Behind Working With Knitwear (Which Is A Whole Other Technique For Woven Fabrics). My Knit Collection Will Be Inspired By Russian Folklore And Traditional Embroidery! And How To Do It In Knit Fabrics.

On Your Collection, We Can See Fabric Manipulation Such As Quilting And Use Of Natural Fabrics, Where Did The Idea Come From? What Other Techniques Do You Use?

I Usually Go To The Fabric Shops That I'm Working With And Ask If They Have Leftovers - To Give The Fabric Another Life. For Example, The Quilting Technique Idea I Used Came From The Leftovers. The Next Technique I'm Going To Use Will Be Embroidery And Knits.

What Are The Business Goals You Set For Your Brand In 2020?

I've Been Experiencing Rapid Growth. As A One-Person Who Manages Her Business Alone, I Need To Be More Productive And Manage My Time Right. For 2020 I Plan To Have An Operation Place And Have A Solid Plan, At Least For The Next Couple Of Years.
